The Ray A. Kroc Youth Achievement Award
AWARD CRITERIA
The Ray A. Kroc Youth Achievement Award was designed to honor junior and senior high school students who demonstrate the characteristics exemplified by Ray A. Kroc - persistence, determination, hard work and excellence. Students should be evaluated by school administrators and teachers. When measuring these characteristics in potential recipients, consider the following key achievement areas:
CITIZENSHIP - Community involvement through volunteer work in a social organization, civic group, church, etc.
LEADERSHIP - Holding a position of authority within the school or the community (eg. student government, school-sanctioned club or outside organization).
SCHOLARSHIP - Consistent performance at the individual's greatest potential.
SPORTSMANSHIP - Display characteristics of good sportsmanship. A team player in every sense of the word, not necessarily through participation in or support of the school's athletic teams.
In addition to these guidelines, the selection committee's insights into and knowledge of the student's overall character should be applied when determining recipients. Generally, the recipient should be a student who has earned the respect of his/her peers and teachers alike. The award was created to honor students who excel in a variety of areas, not necessarily those typically identified as recipients of prestigious sports or scholarship awards, but rather the "UNSUNG HEROES" of the class. Each student (one senior and one junior) selected to receive the Award receives a Ray A. Kroc Youth Achievement Award medallion. Other program options include a recognition plaque for the school and an award certificate and lapel pin for the recipient.
